"The Observer"

Watercolor on paper
60 x 82 cm.  (23.6" x 32.2")

This large watercolor painting on French paper pays respect to His Majesty as an artist, a photographer who has spent more than fifty years taking pictures of Thailand and Thai people. It is more difficult to use watercolors over large surface and maintain control of the
image. I used large watercolor brushes and a hairdryer and tissue paper to dry the paper as I worked. I also used a palette knife to bring the whiteness of the paper to the surface as well as my fingers to move the colors as I needed. The effect is one of light shining over The King who is wearing a casual Thai shirt over a formal Western coat which shows his international character.
